The Lone Cypress (USA)

Description

The Lone Cypress in Pebble Beach, California, is one of the most photographed trees in North America. Seeded around 1750, the tree began growing on its rocky granite headland long before the United States was founded. Protected by Engineering: Decades of heavy winds and salt spray prompted human intervention. A stone retaining wall was built around its base in 1941, steel support cables were added in 1948, and fencing was installed in 1969.
