Berenguela Tower and Porta Santa (Santiago de Compostela)

Description

Also known as the Clock Tower (Torre do Reloxo), it is a 72-meter-tall Baroque and medieval landmark located at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela facing the Praza da Quintana. Also - at its base is the Porta Santa - featuring an artistic array of 27 Baroque and Romanesque figures, including sculptures from the Maestro Mateo’s old medieval stone choir combined with figures of Saint James and his disciples Atanasio and Teodoro. The door remains walled up and closed during normal years. It is only opened for a Jacobean Holy Year (when July 25 falls on a Sunday, or during special extended Holy Years).
